Notes: Original image is 3.9 MB. Image at Stanford site. See also TRR0004. HCS 1/15/2022. Attributed to Alfred A. Hart, p. 32, in Mayer & Vose 1975 book, Makin' Tracks. Also see Goldbaum and Huffman's 2012 book, Waiting for the Cars, p. 258. The authors explain that this water or tea carrier (probably Chinese) is outside the east end of tunnel no. 8 in the summer of 1867. Chief Engineer Montague called this the "finest tunnel entrance" on the entire CP. The authors explain that tunnel no. 8 is a 375 foot bore through Black Point. Like Summit Tunnel no. 6, nitroglycerin was also used in boring this tunnel.
