Notes: Original image is 15 MB. Has mainline, a spur on the left with a train shed. The Spur on the right is a lower elevation to the mainline. The Truckee Hotel building is the same roofline as TRR0071 but zooming in there doesn't seem to be the "Seeler" building. CM 1/14/2022. Also in Mayer & Vose 1975 book, Makin' Tracks, p. 60, attributed to Alfred A. Hart. See also Goldbaum and Huffman's 2012 book, Waiting for the Cars, p. 282. Photograph believed to have been taken looking east in August 1968. George Schaffer and Joseph Gray established the first Truckee area sawmill and hauled the first locomotive across the mountain. Elevation 5,819 feet. See also John Signor's 1985 book, Donner Pass, p. 28, bottom image, which relates that the CPRR entered Truckee 199.5 miles east of Sacramento June 19, 1868. See also NPS site. See also NYPL image. Curiously a different publisher is credited to this image, E.& H.T. Anthony & Co., 591 Broadway, NY. Hart's name does not appear on this NYPL image. (6/10/2024 HCS/DDeP).
