Notes: Original image is 1 MB. Cab Forward X4294 is the last remaining Southern Pacific (SP) cab forward still in existence and is on display at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. The cab forward was originally stored in an outdoor display October 19, 1958 at the SP station, but in 1981, after a move necessitated by the construction of Interstate 5, was moved to its present location in 1981. This X4294 Cab Forward was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in March 1944 and was used to haul SP's trains over the Sierra Nevada, specifically on Donner Pass. HCS 2/7/2022/BCz
See also John Signor's 1985 book, Donner Pass, p. 209 who states that cab forward no. 4274 is last cab forward operating in the Sierra, last trip operated Nov. 30, 1957. Cab forward is now in the Sacramento Railroad Museum.
