"An added touch of excitement was given the carnival [Truckee's Winter Carnival] crowds Sunday when the East and West bound air mail pilots brought their planes down to within less than a hundred feet of the ground and circled over the heads of the crowds who waved them bon voyage and were greeted with a return wave. The people of Truckee have a particularly warm spot in their hearts for the daring boys who fly over the section and much anxiety is felt when on occasions the whir of the planes can be heard overhead when a blinding snow storm is in progress, so they are glad of these occasional opportunities to wave their greetings to them."
