Notes: Also see Goldbaum and Huffman's 2012 book, Waiting for the Cars, p. 280. The authors describe Truckee's early beginnings in 1863 as Gray's Station, then Coburn's Station, and eventually Truckee. Amusingly, they also refer to Truckee's repeated "new" look - due to repeated town fires and reconstruction. Notice the amount of lumber on Main Street (Commercial Row, Front Street, Donner Pass Road). A guest researcher kindly noted that this image is also available at Huntington Library at this link.
