Notes: Original image is 8.8 MB. Truckee's first hospital was located off Donner Pass Road in Brickelltown on the site of the [then] current First Realty office. The first doctors in Truckee arrived with the Central Pacific Railroad in 1868. Most had practices along Front Street, including Dr. William Curless. In 1907, Drs. Joseph Bernard, George W. Bryant and David Shoemaker built Truckee's first hospital at a cost of $20,000. The structure had 10 rooms and operated until about 1912 and later became the home of August Sassarini and his family. It was later purchased by Dick Joseph. The original building suffered a fire in an explosion in 1932 and the present building was constructed on the foundation.
